Intent, page types, and the opportunity map · 28 min
Build a 20-opportunity map — grouped, not dumped
In this lesson
- Produce 20 rows grouped by intent AND page type, plus one explicit would-not-rank-for
- Mark each row observed or inferred — never invent volume or a rank
A map has groups. A dump is 20 lines in one pile.
Group first, then fill rows. Suggested groups for Northfield: (A) Brand / local nav → homepage. (B) Inventory categories (SUVs, trucks, under $16k, Honda) → SRP. (C) Specific units / year-make-model → VDP. (D) Financing and trade-in → dedicated pages, commercial. (E) Trust (reviews, hours) → homepage or reviews block. (F) Optional guides you will actually link from. (G) Would not rank for — jobs, entertainment, national “used cars USA,” junk-car buying if that is not the business. Twenty money rows plus at least one would-not-rank-for. If all 20 are “used cars” synonyms pointed at the homepage, you dumped.
Row contract
Each of the 20 money rows: query | primary intent | local yes/no | page type (homepage / SRP / VDP / guide) | observed or inferred | why it could create an appointment this month. Observed means you would actually type it, or you have seen it in a public autocomplete — say so. Inferred means you are guessing from the lot (55 used vehicles, average ask $18,400, 48-hour test drive) — say so. Do not invent a monthly volume or “we rank #4.” The would-not-rank-for row explains why ranking would not book a Saturday appointment.
48-hour test drive + same-day financing decision on approved credit. At least one transactional row should point at a page that can finish that offer — not at a history-of-Frederick blog.
Exercise
Keyword map
For Northfield, deliver 20 opportunities grouped by intent AND page type (not a single dump). Include at least one “would not rank for.” Mark each money row observed or inferred. Do not invent search volumes or ranks. Do not add match types, bids, or RSAs.
Deliverable: A grouped table: query, intent, page type, observed/inferred, why it could create an appointment — plus one would-not-rank-for.
