30-day GEO plan and the won’t-do list
In this lesson
- Rank citation actions by impact on being named for appointment prompts
- Write a won’t-do list that refuses fake reviews, doorway pages, and invented citations
A month of citation work — not a campaign memo
A GEO plan changes what a model can retrieve and quote. It does not rename ad groups or split a $3,000 Search budget. One defendable 30-day sequence: Week 1 — lock the entity (NAP + GBP + about), publish the unique offer in a full public sentence, make inventory or service URLs crawlable. Week 2 — FAQ that answers the eight prompts; llms.txt that points only at live URLs; structured data that matches the visible page. Week 3 — third-party corroboration you can defend (ask real customers for reviews; a real local mention if it exists). Week 4 — re-run the eight prompts on the same engines; fix hallucinations that came from your own pages (wrong hours, missing area, invented Saturday capacity); kill anything that looks like a doorway. Rank every action by “will this make an appointment-intent answer more likely to name us?” not by keyword volume.
Worked ranks — lot vs shop
Northfield, highest first if the audit showed absent on inventory prompts: (1) crawlable /inventory + at least one CR-V VDP with stock/VIN; (2) public 48-hour test-drive page; (3) NAP/hours that match GBP so prompt 5 stops hallucinating; (4) FAQ for financing and overnight take-home; (5) llms.txt pointers; (6) structured data on the dealer entity and live vehicles; (7) real review ask after a booked appointment — never purchased stars; (8) re-test the eight prompts. Cedar & Stone, highest first if emergency-heat rows were absent: (1) services page that states same-week emergency heat, Dual Highway, and the 25-mile list / not Baltimore; (2) $129 online tune-up on a URL with a next step; (3) NAP + a logged phone (shared cell with no logging is a citation and ops hole); (4) FAQ for written estimate and Saturday limits; (5) llms.txt; (6) LocalBusiness markup that matches those sentences; (7) real review ask after a completed ticket; (8) re-test. If you submit campaign names, match types, or a recycled Northfield Ads memo, you failed the assignment.
Won’t-do — gimmicks that poison citations
Write these as refusals, not as temptations. Fake reviews (or a Cheap Heat-style star farm) teach models a lie and can take the GBP with them. Doorway pages — thin “used cars in {town}” or “furnace repair {town}” copies for every zip — are spam, not citation assets. Invented citations — “ChatGPT named us #1 in Maryland,” fake awards, fake press — fail verification and seed the next hallucination. Hidden AI-only text / cloaking. Buying directory spam. Advertising same-day installs or 24/7 dispatch Priya will not run. Advertising a VIN or a $129 price that is not on the page. If a junior suggests any of these to “win GEO fast,” the answer is no, and the plan should say why.
The re-test is the same eight prompts, same engines, same status codes. If week 4 does not include that table, you wrote a wish list, not a GEO plan.

Citation assets and plan check
Assignment
30-day GEO action plan
Write a ranked 30-day GEO plan for one business (prefer Cedar & Stone if your SEO or Ads homework already used Northfield). Include: eight citation actions ordered by impact on being named for appointment prompts; the week each ships; the public URL or asset each action creates; a won’t-do list that refuses fake reviews, doorway pages, invented citations, and cloaking; and the eight re-test prompts with the status codes you will log in week 4. This is not a Northfield campaign memo, not a keyword map, and not an Ads Editor outline. No fabricated AI quotes or awards.
Deliverable: Ranked 8 actions by week + won’t-do list + 8 re-test prompts. GEO only.
Write at least a short brief (80+ characters). A mentor reviews for a pass.
