A good excerpt and a find-replace fail

In this lesson

  • Annotate the decisions in a partial HVAC plan that respects $4k, 40 appointments, and season
  • Spot a find-replace Northfield excerpt and say why it fails

PASS excerpt — annotated

Week 1–2 offer: lead with the $129 fall maintenance plan booked online; keep emergency-heat as a same-week path, not a “lowest price” promise. [Decision: season + Fall maintenance plan $129 online, same-week emergency heat response inside the service area, and a written estimate before any replacement. She will not advertise “lowest prices in Maryland” or guaranteed same-day installs.] Channel split of $4000: about $2,200 Search/LSA on “furnace repair Hagerstown,” “fall tune-up near me,” and brand; $900 GBP + site conversion (click-to-call, shorter form, online book for the $129); $600 Meta only for tune-up remarketing to people already on the site — not a cold “used CR-V” lookalike. $300 held for call tracking so the 14 GBP calls stop dying on a shared cell. [Decision: measurement before more media.] Capacity: cap paid to a pace that can fill 40 appointments, then pause. Saturday morning is already tight; do not buy Saturday-only demand. [Decision: Eight techs on the road, two more who can take overflow. Priya will not sell more than 40 booked appointments next month if the calendar cannot hold them. Saturday morning is already tight.] Area: Williamsport, Funkstown, Smithsburg, I-70 toward Frederick — no Baltimore. [Decision: Hagerstown plus about 25 miles: Williamsport, Funkstown, Smithsburg, and the I-70 corridor toward Frederick. She will not dispatch to Baltimore.] Proof: licensed techs, Dual Highway shop, written estimate — not invented five-star copy from “Hagerstown Cheap Heat.” [Decision: Two national franchise vans run radio. A cheap Facebook page (“Hagerstown Cheap Heat”) undercuts on price and invents five-star reviews. Priya’s edge is licensed techs, a real shop on Dual Highway, and written estimates.] Ticket honesty: optimize for booked jobs around the $380 average completed ticket; do not pretend every click is a $9,000 outdoor unit. [Decision: Average completed ticket is about $380. A new outdoor unit can be $6,000–$9,000. Fall tune-up is $129 if booked online.] Unknown labeled: we do not know which of last month’s 61 forms became a job.

FAIL excerpt — find-replace Northfield

“Priya Cole needs more booked appointments from people ready to buy this month. Spend the $4,000 like Dana’s $3,000: one Search campaign on used CR-V under 16k Hagerstown, a 48-hour test-drive offer on the homepage, and a keyword map of 20 vehicle queries grouped by inventory / financing / trade-in. Instrument view_item on each VDP. Target 40 test drives. Recycled Northfield names were swapped: Frederick→Hagerstown, $3,000→$4,000, Dana→Priya, CR-V stays because ‘it still converts.’” That paragraph fails. There is no CR-V. There is no test drive. There is no VDP. The $3,000 dealer architecture is not a $4,000 HVAC architecture. If you can still see Dana’s lot through the find-replace, do not submit it.

Five slow pages: Home, About, Services, Financing, Contact. The contact form asks for name, email, phone, address, and a long comment. No click-to-call sticky bar. No online scheduler. The “Services” page lists 14 items with no prices and no next step. A pass excerpt names the next step on those five pages. A fail excerpt adds a /inventory grid and a VIN.

Exercise

Mark the fail lines

Copy the FAIL excerpt. Underline every leftover Northfield artifact (CR-V, $3k architecture, Dana, test drive, VDP, inventory map). Write one replacement sentence for each underline that could only be true of Cedar & Stone.

Deliverable: Underlined fail excerpt + replacement sentences (HVAC-only).
